Vibrant and utopian, Art by13 is an artistic undertaking of a single individual aimed at capturing a lifetime of personal experience in a limited time. The bold and sentimental illustrative style brings about feelings and ideas relating directly to a childlike bewilderment that is the discovery of painting. The simple line work lends to the artist’s admiration of urban street art and culture. There are also clear influences of pop art, surrealism, and abstraction. However, there is not one clear or defined genre associated with this body of work as these paintings represent a non-defined, non-static flow of consciousness that has spanned over the past 5 years. Art by 13 is an exploratory project that is ever evolving and branching out to new territories as time unfolds. The work is intended to be seen and enjoyed by anyone and everyone regardless of social class, race, gender, or age in an effort to convey a universal message to be seen and heard. Although we are each unique individuals there is the idea that we are all tied to the collective, and as such share a collective understanding. The artist behind 13 uses a vast array of mediums and techniques to achieve an unending variety of visual effects. Mediums explored include but not limited to acrylic, watercolor, oil sticks, spray paint, and ink. Music, icons, history, literature, painters, and Jungian psychology set the tone of the project. These works exist between tragedy and humor, truth and fiction, insecurity and self validation. This artistic endeavor seeks to nonverbally question the artist and the audience. Do we speak the same language? A blend of intentional and subconscious desires are released in a therapeutic display of concepts and statements imperative to the heart and soul of the artist. Each piece pays tribute to inspiring images and ideas perceived by the artist.
