BAILEY RUSSEL

Originally from New Jersey, Bailey Russel is a Professor of Photography at the University of Wyoming in Laramie, Wyoming. He received a BA in Art History from Princeton University and an MA in Photography from a joint program between NYU and ICP in New York. After working for various photographers and museums around New York, he moved to Seattle and then to Laramie.

Bailey’s work is mostly based out of a discussion of the relationship between process and content and how that can be used to address issues of land usage in the modern West. He has worked extensively with room size camera obscuras, the wet plate collodion process and other alt printing methods. Most recently Bailey was part of a project called the Sesquicentennial Colorado River Exploring Expedition, a reimaging of Powell’s first journey down the Colorado and Green Rivers 150 years later. His work has been shown in museums, galleries, and non-profit spaces around the west and the country.
